Meet the world’s largest lion sculpture by one of our own Okay Ikenegbu

 

 

In 2020, ArtQuay Director Okay Ikenegbu achieved a significant milestone and created an enduring legacy with the design and construction of Unity Park Enugu, a conservation park spanning 90,044.56 square metres (969,231.58 square feet) and defined by a total perimeter of 1.39 kilometres (4,560 feet).

The park is primarily dedicated to outdoor and nature-based recreational activities, featuring reinforced concrete tracks extending approximately 1.9 kilometres, designed to support leisure, fitness, and environmental engagement.

Key Features of Unity Park

The Roaring Lion
A monumental reinforced concrete sculpture executed in a bold constructivist style, the Roaring Lion stands as a defining landmark within the park. Measuring 42 feet high, 72 feet long, and 24 feet wide, it has been internationally recognised by RecordSetter as the world’s largest lion sculpture, symbolising strength, heritage, and cultural identity.

Artificial Pond
The park also features an expansive artificial pond with a total area of 1,587,877 square metres, comprising:

  • Water coverage: 1,270.04 square metres
  • Carved dry area: 317,842 square metres
  • Water depth: approximately 4 feet

This carefully engineered water body provides a favorable hydrodynamic environment for recreational boating while supporting ecological balance and promoting a rich level of biodiversity.
